Travis Chao is a Los Angeles–based visual artist whose work explores light, moving image, water, and atmosphere as spatial and perceptual materials. Rooted in filmmaking and experimental image-making, his practice has evolved from screen-based work toward immersive installations that examine how light can shape space, movement, and perception.

His ongoing body of work, LIGHTFORM, treats projected light as a sculptural medium, using reflection, water, and atmospheric conditions to transform images into shifting fields of light. Through these works, Chao explores the boundary between image and object, creating environments that respond to architecture, material, and the presence of the viewer.

His first public exhibition, REFLECT (Burbank, CA 2025), explored the relationship between moving image and live music. His latest public installation, THRESHOLD (Binghamton, NY 2026), was presented at LUMA Arts Festival 2026, where projected light and water created an evolving field of caustic reflections across the surrounding architecture.
